During the past year Bulgaria granted the right of permanent residence to a total of 8795 nationals of non-EU countries. This has been announced by the European Commission, quoting data by Eurostat. Most often, the right of permanent residence in Bulgaria was given to Russians (3307), Turkish (2347), and Ukrainians (598 persons). One third of the permits for permanent residence in the country were granted due to family ties, 10 percent were related to education, while only 3.5 percent were job-related. Other reasons are stated as grounds for granting permits to the remaining 56.7 percent of the people who received them, it was reported.
