Government withdraws security sector cuts

The cabinet has withdrawn the changes proposed for the 2016 draft budget, envisaging cuts in the sector of security, related to the social and retirement package of police personnel, which have kicked off widespread protests across the country. That has been reported today by Interior Minister Rumyana Bachvarova after a sitting of the Social Partnership Council. The trade unions have announced the ceasing of the protests as of Monday, but today’s one will take place at 1 pm. Some 500 police officers have filed in their resignations so far due to the draft budget proposals. Today’s session has been closed with the reading of a declaration by Minister Bachvarova, which puts an end to the discrepancies.
