More than 200 ethnic Bulgarians from Moldova, Macedonia, Hungary, Romania, Cyprus Serbia and France have joined the sixth session of the World Parliament of Bulgarians underway in the Black Sea port of Varna. The Speaker of the parliament Prof. Plamen Pavlov was explicit that Bulgaria was not active in its policies towards Bulgarians abroad who expected to see stronger support for the preservation of the Bulgarian language and traditions. The chief secretary of the State Agency for Bulgarian Abroad Ivanka Slavcheva pointed out that there were 850 Bulgarian communities in the world with whom the agency was in contact. The budget of the agency though is not more than 300,000 euro and is not enough to fund various initiatives of our fellow countrymen abroad. Slavcheva added that there were from 100 to 200 applicants a day for Bulgarian origin certificates. Applicants are mostly from Ukraine, Moldova and Macedonia.
