Irina Bokova: I will not go into UN battle without support from the Bulgarian state

In an interview today for NovaTV channel, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova said she would not struggle to head the United Nations, if she did not have the support of the Bulgarian state. At the same time, she urged the government not to delay the official announcement of the official candidate of this country, in order to be able to start the campaign abroad, which will be decisive for the final result. The mandate of the current UN Secretary General expires at the end of the year.
Bokova was approved by the Oresharski Cabinet at its last meeting before the cabinet resigned in 2013 as the Bulgarian nomination in the race, but Bulgaria does not yet formally have a candidate until the country specifies a name in the official selection procedure for the head of the UN, which began only on December 16 last year.
"Without the support of the state I would not be eager to fight for the post. I think I have the support of the prime minister and the foreign minister, but the relevant letter must be sent," commented Irina Bokova today.
