Bulgarian Stream project to balance gas controversies in Europe

Photo: library

The new project for a gas pipeline entitled Bulgarian Stream should reduce the clash of interests among EU countries an attain a certain balance between the planned Nord Stream 2 and the losses from the expected revenues from the suspended South Stream gas pipeline. The statement is made by the private US intelligence and analytical agency Stratfor. Premier Boyko Borissov said that Bulgarian Stream, as the Agency calls the project for the Balkan gas hub, will be 100% Bulgarian property. It will fully meet the requirements of the European Commission and will be using the existing gas grid of the country. The Stratfor Agency further points out that it will be difficult for Gazprom to cut the gas transit though Ukraine before it finds new routes for its export. From this point of view the Bulgarian Stream has a future also because it is backed up, just like Nord Stream 2, by the enormous interests of west European companies, and that is the common opinion of both European and American analysts.
