Today both the Presidency and the National Assembly in Sofia have declared an Open Doors Day for the public to commemorate the 143rd death anniversary of Bulgaria’s foremost national hero Vasil Levski (1837-1873), the 140th anniversary of the April Uprising and the 140th death anniversary of poet of genius and revolutionary Hristo Botev. President Rosen Plevneliev welcomed the first visitors of the Presidency, pupils from Sofia. A special exhibition has been arranged there including letters, documents and personal effects of the Apostle of Freedom Levski. The president thanked institutions (museums and libraries) in the country who have provided the items for the commemorative display. Central to the exhibition is the celebrated notebook of Vasil Levski that he used in 1871 and 1872. In parliament the display is focused on the Apostle, Hristo Botev and the April Uprising. Visitors are free to visit the plenary hall of the National Assembly.
