The Bulgarian town of Veliko Tarnovo will be included in the UNESCO Tentative List for towns and cities regarded as cultural heritage of universal value. The news was announced by Veliko Tarnovo mumnicipality following the meeting between UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova and Veliko Tarnovo Mayor Daniel Panov. Irina Bokova and Daniel Panov discussed the application of Bulgaria’s former capital to enter the World Heritage List. Veliko Tarnovo will apply with the Old Town ensemble, as well as with medieval churches in the village of Arbanasi and Asenov residential district. The sites should be included in the UNESCO Tentative List by the end of 2016.
