Eurostat survey on housing conditions in the EU has shown that 85% of Bulgarians own a home. According to that indicator Bulgaria is among the first in the union. First in the chart is Romania, with 96 percent of private ownership of housing, followed by Croatia and Lithuania - 90 percent. More than half of Bulgarians live in brick houses and 45 percent live in apartments in blocks. From a total of about 3.9 million homes, 2.6 million are situated in urban areas and about 1.3 million are in villages.
