Stanimir Belomazhev wins bronze at European Ski Orienteering Championships

Bulgarian Stanimir Belomazhev has won the bronze at the European Ski Orienteering Championships in Finland. He finished 13 sec. after gold medalist Lars Mohold from Norway. The silver went to Kiril Veselov from Russia.

Originally, Stanimir Belomazhev clocked the best time, but was disqualified along with several other athletes for choosing the option of passing through a frozen lake marked on the map as impassable. After a series of protests the jury decided to deduct from the classification time the interval for the passage of the disputed section and announced the official results, in which the Bulgarian placed third.

In his career Stanimir Belomazhev has won three European titles, silver and bronze at the championships in Latvia (2013), Russia (2014) and Switzerland (2015).

In the mixed relay Antonia Grigorova and Stanimir Belomazhev placed fourth following Russia, Sweden and Finland.
