US naval forces: we are trying to maintain permanent presence in the Black Sea region

The US navy is trying to maintain a permanent presence in the Black Sea region using the right of free navigation in international waters, commander of US warship Oscar Austin Captain Janice Smith said at a press-conference in the coastal city of Varna. Captain Smith refused to provide details on the route of Oscar Austin warship and the dates it would moor at Black Sea ports. The presence of US warship in the Black Sea demonstrates the engagement of the USA under the collective defense of its allies and partners in this region, Janice Smith pointed out. In her words, Oscar Austin will remain in Varna Bay until May 20. Topics related to maritime safety, forthcoming military exercises, bilateral relations and assistance provided by the US partners to the Bulgarian naval forces will be discussed during the visit of the US military staff to Bulgaria.
