Major contraband crime group cracked down on

Photo: EPA/BGNES

During an operation of the Director General Combating Organized Crime, 23 persons have been detained involved in large-scale contraband. The group has used software to hack the information system of the Customs Agency providing a connection between the agency structures. In this way transit traffic has been registered without the respective cargo trucks ever carrying goods across borders and without any customs control whatsoever. Searches and expropriation of property are carried out in private homes, offices of companies and in the premises of the Customs Agency itself. Detainees include hackers, traders’ representatives, former and current customs inspectors. The investigation continues.
