Three main tasks of Standing NATO Maritime Group 2

There are three main tasks performed by the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2, said Commodore James Morley, the commander of the Group, speaking at a briefing of the commanders of foreign vessels taking part in Breeze 2017 national naval exercise with international participation. He explained that the main task of the Group was to maintain a high level of combat readiness for counteraction to all kinds of threats and humanitarian crises. The second task of the Group is combating the migration wave. Currently vessels from the Group jointly with Turkey and Greece perform such tasks in the Aegean Sea. The third task of the vessels from the Group includes visits to various ports in support of NATO members and partnering countries.
