Natsionalna Elektricheska Kompania has been negotiating with Russian equipment manufacturer Rosatom to store the Belene NPP equipment alone under the control of the Russian corporation. This was announced by the Executive Director of NEK, Petar Iliev. The reason is that the Russian proposal for storage is financially disadvantageous for the company. Iliev explained that the equipment will have to stay at the site for at least the next 5 years. NEK will sell to Kozloduy NPP the rest of the old equipment for Belene NPP, which has been stored at the site of the second nuclear power plant since 1991.
