On November 8th, the 100th anniversary since the founding of the Medical Faculty of the Sofia University is celebrated. The celebration took place under the auspices of the rector of the Medical University Prof. Dr. Viktor Zlatkov. On November 29, 1917, with a decree of Knyaz Ferdinand, the start of academic medical education in Bulgaria was given. Three years later, 17 young Bulgarian doctors went to study abroad for the first time. They were the first Bulgarian professors who studied in Vienna, Berlin, Toulouse and Geneva, and later became lecturers in Sofia. Over the past 100 years, the Medical Faculty has trained nearly 40,000 doctors. 3,000 of these are foreigners from 80 different countries.
