Sculpture of legendary Czech brewers Prošek Brothers erected downtown Sofia

Photo: BTA

Near the entrance of the Bulgarian National Television downtown Sofia, on the site where one of the first breweries in Bulgaria used to be, there is already a sculpture and a memorial plaque of brothers Jiří and Bogdan Prošek. The two Czechs are the founders of brewing in Bulgaria. The sculpture shows them sitting at a table, smiling, holding beer mugs. It is the work of Prof. Georgi Chapkanov, Kosta Chapkanov, Stanislava Chapkanova and architect Stanislav Konstantinov on the occasion of the 170th anniversary since the birth of the elder brother Jiří Prošek. The monument is an expression of respect for the work of the two, who were notable builders, public figures and cultural figures that chose Bulgaria as their second home country. Some of the most remarkable architectural monuments in the capital, such as the Eagle’s Bridge, the Lion’s Bridge, the Beer Factory and others are work of the Prošek Brothers.
