Vasil Petrov and the Bulgarian National Radio Big Band conducted by Antony Donchev are presenting their new music programme in a concert on December 4 at Hall № 1 of the National Palace of Culture. The idea about this concert came two years ago when the world marked the 100th birth anniversary of acclaimed singer Frank Sinatra. Back then, the producer of the upcoming concert Margarita Tosheva was dreaming of a show in the style of the Early Las Vegas. This is why Bulgarian singer Vassil Petrov, also known as the Bulgarian Frank Sinatra, is the main figure in the forthcoming event.

“The concert is dedicated to Frank Sinatra and his role in Las Vegas since the beginning of the 1960’s, Vassil Petrov told Radio Bulgaria. Show business vitalized back then and Sinatra and his band The Rat Pack consisting of Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop were the protagonists. They were comedians, dancers, actors and singers at the same time. The Rats defined the quality of show business at that time. Meanwhile, the coprs de ballet became part of the show. There is a ballet in our music show as well. My friend Bruce Johnson from the USA will be a guest soloist at the concert. He is an impressive bass-baritone and we are to present with him an aria by Ol’ Man River- one of the first musicals of Jerome David Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II. Vesela Boneva, Hilda Kazasyan and young musician Valeria Stoyanova will also appear on stage. One of the songs is specially addressed to Las Vegas. We will present many new and interesting things at the upcoming concert, too. With this concert I would like to draw the attention of the audience to a wonderful period in the history of show business”, Vassil Petrov said.

Vassil Petrov told Radio Bulgaria the names of some pieces that will be part of the concert programme. Frank Sinatra’s most emblematic songs My Way, Fly Me to The Moon, Come Fly with Me, Something Stupid, New York, New York are of course among them, as well as many other swing pieces, jazz ballads and bossa nova songs. Stanislava Gocheva and Ani Gancheva are choreographers of the concert. Rumen Grigorov and Alex Bornaz are directors of the music show.
