Employers and trade unions in Bulgaria have not reached a consensus on the new minimum wage as of 2018. This became clear during the last meeting of the National Council for Tripartite Cooperation for 2017, FOCUS News Agency reported.
However, Labor and Social Policy Minister Bisser Petkov confirmed that from 2018 the minimum wage will be 261 euros per month or 203 euros after taxes, which is above the defined poverty threshold of 167 euros. Trade unions have voiced support for the government’s decision.
Employers, however, do not support the plans on grounds that the gap between the average and the minimum wage will be too low and will demotivate people from raising their qualifications.
