12% of victims of domestic violence in Bulgaria seek help from police, poll shows

According to the Sova Harris polling agency the number of Bulgarians who believe that the Istanbul Convention should be ratified is three times smaller than that of those who reject it is. According to the agency, over 99% of people have not read the document and base their opinion on media reports.

According to the survey, 22% of Bulgarians have witnessed domestic violence. About 61% of victims of domestic violence have tried to solve the problem themselves, while another 24% have not responded in any way. Some 22% have told their relatives about the issue.

About 12 percent of victims sought assistance from the police in cases of domestic violence, the poll shows.
