A record number of foreign citizens live in Germany, the Federal Statistical Office of Germany says. The reason is the influx of asylum-seekers as well as migrants from other EU countries.
Out of the total of 82 million people living in Germany, approximately one in eight is a foreigner. Last year alone the number of foreigners increased by around 600,000, of them 439,000 are citizens of EU countries. 45,000 new Bulgarians came to Germany in 2017. According to Deutsche Welle, there are 310,415 Bulgarians living in the country at this time. Statistical data only register the foreigners who do not have German passports. Bulgarians holding dual citizenship are not covered by statistics.
