The map Vestiges of Heroic Time which marks 100 sites for commemoration found in the entire territory of Bulgaria was presented at the Regional Museum of History in Ruse. The map is part of a two-year project Vestiges of Heroic Time implemented by scholars from the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with an Ethnographic Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences with team leader Assoc. Prof. Nikolay Vukov, PhD.

The research project seeks to map and analyze the sites for commemoration of persons and events from the national-liberation struggles (1867-1878) by studying commemorative ritual practices.

The project accentuates the ways in which monuments and museums recount of heroic times, the semantics of civil rituals in Bulgaria as well as how national symbolic spaces function in a variety of cultural, political and social contexts. The project Vestiges of Heroic Time has been supported by the Scientific Research Fund at the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science.
