Bulgaria passes on symbolically EU Presidency in interior sphere

Photo: Ministry of the Interior

Minister of the Interior Valentin Radev said for the BNR that his EU colleagues had established the basis of a compromise in regard to asylum granting regulation. The Italian stance still remains unknown – the country has had a new government as of this week. EU Commissioner on Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos expressed his hope that an agreement could be achieved at the next European Council under the Dublin Treaty, which regulates the asylum granting in the EU. At a sitting of the Justice and Home Affairs Council in Luxemburg Minister Radev passed on symbolically the Presidency in the Home Affairs area to his Austrian counterpart Herbert Kickl. Austria takes over the Presidency of the Council of the EU on July 1st.
