The parliament has adopted a proposal of the governing GERB party for renewal of the search for options on the construction of the Belene NPP. The decision envisages the project’s implementation with the finding of a strategic partner on the free market with no state guarantees. Minister of Energy Temenuzhka Petkova commented that there had been 4 applicants with serious interest demonstrated so far and that it was possible the Belene NPP to be constructed within 7 years. The proposal of the socialists for withdrawing of the 2012 decision for ceasing Belene’s construction didn’t gather the necessary votes and was rejected.
