With the very start of the migration crisis Bulgaria demonstrated a more reasonable conduct than many other European countries. The protection of the EU external borders should be strengthened in an uncompromising way,” Bulgarian President Rumen Radev said in Bratislava. There he gave a joint press conference with his counterpart Andrej Kiska while on an official visit to Slovakia.

Radev and Kiska agreed that EU needs a single solution where migration policy is concerned.

At last Europe has started to come to grips with the importance of this crisis. We have all found out that the open doors policy is harmful not only for Europe but also for the countries where migrants come from,” the Bulgarian president said and specified that migrants should not abdicate from solving the problems of their native countries.

At a meeting of President Rumen Radev with the Prime Minister of Slovakia Peter Pellegrinhi the two officials have agreed that the European Union should account for the interests of all Member States in adopting the rules for posting of workers in the so-called Mobility Package. If the arguments of the Bulgarian haulers are neglected there is a risk of thousands of Bulgarian nationals losing their transport jobs which would make them potential emigrants, Rumen Radev said.
