Sheep, goat breeders brace for national protest

Photo: BGNES

Sheep and goat farmers from across the country have been preparing a national protest. The reason is the absence of a national policy in the sector of animal farming.

Farmers demand a minimal state subsidy of 10 euro per head. The organizers of the protest argue that the recent years have seen a drastic decline in the number of animals in the country. The purchase price of milk has dropped from 70 to 50 eurocents per liter which has caused a wave of losses and bankruptcies.

The first in the series of protests is scheduled for 13 July on the main road from Sofia to Varna. More than 1500 farmers are expected to join it and symbolically destroy their produce to make their problems heard.
