Bulgarian students win medals at International Informatics Olympiad in Japan

Bulgarian students have won four medals – one gold and three bronze ones, at the 30thInternational Olympiad in Informatics underway in Japan from 1 to 8 Sept.

Alexander Krastev in the 11th grade won the gold, and Victor Terziev in the 12th grade, Martin Koptchev in the 8th grade and Radoslav Dimitrov in the 11th grade won bronze medals.

This year 339 competitorс from 87 countries joined the race.

The initiative to launch an International Olympiad in Informatics is in fact Bulgarian. Back in 1989, at the suggestion of Academician Blagovest Sendov made to UNESCO, Bulgaria hosted the first International Olympiad in Informatics.

Until 2017, the Bulgarian students had won the total of 100 medals in informatics – 25 gold, 41 silver and 34 bronze ones, ranking the country fifth in the world.
