Bulgarian Minister of Agriculture Rumen Porozhanov has said that outbreaks of African swine fever outbreaks have already been found in Bulgaria in regions bordering on Romania.

We are faced with a serious threat, the minister warned emerging from a meeting of the Central Epizootic Council which discussed measures for curbing the infection. One of them envisages monetary compensation for animal farmers who slaughter their pigs in the 20-km zone around industrial farms.

So far, African swine fever has affected 12 regions of Romania, and close to 200,000 animals have been culled.
