The overhaul of the former “party house” in the centre of Sofia continues. The building will, in future, house the sessions of the Bulgarian National Assembly.

The plenary hall will seat 270, with the capacity of another 400 seats, if a Grand National Assembly has to be convened. There will be more seat space allowing for the use of laptops. To save time, the option is being considered of the MPs being able to speak from their places. Room for VIP guests has been designated, as have two separate zones for the media. Air conditioning systems are to be installed, and all old architectural elements will be preserved. The MPs will sit on chairs upholstered in blue, matching the colour of the European flag. The hall will have a 500 sq. m. glass dome, similar to the dome of the Bundstag in Berlin. The construction of the new plenary hall is scheduled to be completed in mid-2019.
