Alumnus from USA leaves more than 1 million USD to Medical University in Sofia

The Bulgarian emigrant in USA Dr Andrey Georgiev has in an act of remarkable generosity left 1,037,413 US dollars to young medics in Bulgaria who have chosen to study at the Medical University in Sofia. Dr Georgiev is the University’s alumnus.

Thank to this act students who graduate with flying colors will benefit from the distribution of a fund worth 10,000 euro. The will of Dr Georgiev is not only about money but is also a message that great success is achieved with hard work, education and perseverance. 

Dr Andrey Georgiev was born in Sofia in 1921. At the beginning of the 1950s he emigrated to the United States. Part of the capital that he accumulated as a respected general practitioner with a work record of more than 50 years he bequeathed to the high school in the Bulgarian Danube town of Lom which he graduated.

Andrey Georgiev was a very humble person and throughout his long life supported young people willing to get trained and develop as professionals. He died aged 93 on 22 April 2014 in his home in Wilmington, Delaware.
