Young Bulgarian woman lives in Norwegian forests and explores wolves

БНР Новини

Zlatina Hrsitova from the town of Veliko Tarnovo (central North Bulgaria) is among the few young people who dared participating at a programme for the study of wolf population in Norway. The twenty eight-year-old Bulgarian woman takes part at a special project. She takes photos of wolves which are protected by the state, but have been subject to illegal hunting in Norway. Zlatina works in a team with a Norwegian citizen who dedicated himself to the cause aimed at protecting these animals. Zlatina’s mission will last for 6 months. She lives in a specially equipped house in the northern part of Norway. The job is not easy at all, although it may seem fun, Zlatina says. In her words, the wolves are extremely intelligent animals and have nothing to do with their image in the fairytales where they are depicted as foolish animals which are pliable to foreign influence. The Bulgarian photographer who spent many hours in research says that wolves are very united. That is why they move in packs. These animals are extremely cautious when a pregnant female is part of the pack of wolves. Then, Zlatina’s job becomes very dangerous, because the wolves’ sense of smell is much greater than the human’s. Some of Zlatina’s colleagues suffered injuries from wolf attacks. That is why the number of people who take the risk to study wolves is very small.
