Two young people were killed in an avalanche in Pirin Mountain in southwestern Bulgaria.

After a search and rescue operation lasting several hours, their bodies were found in a region frequently used by freeriders in wintertime. The young people from Sofia were snowboarding down furrows in the region of Todorka peak.

The highest avalanche alert has been issued for the region, the mountain rescue service said, and urged mountain lovers not to enter the high-risk regions marked as such on the mountain rescue service website.
