Today we mark 140 years since the opening of the Constituent Assembly. It was convened on February 10, 1879, by the Russian Imperial Commissioner in Bulgaria Prince Dondukov-Korsakov. The Constituent Assembly was convened to ratify the country’s first constitution, known as the Tarnovo Constitution. 226 MPs adopted the Tarnovo Constitution on April 16, 1879. The document endorses the democratic values of the Bulgarian people and became the fundamental law in this country.
