On the International Epilepsy Day (February 11) the Association of Parents with Children with Epilepsy Bulgaria sent a letter to the Bulgarian Minister of Health demanding the legalization of cannabis oil for the most severe types of epilepsy. Currently, the use of cannabis oil for medicinal purposes is prohibited, but the Association of Parents with Children with Epilepsy Bulgaria insists that this country should follow the foreign experience. In the USA for instance, a medicine containing cannabis is used for the treatment of people with epilepsy and is paid by the health insurance fund, the association contends. Epilepsy is the most common socially-significant neurological disease. Nearly 75,000 Bulgarians, including 30,000 children, are suffering from epilepsy.
