Passengers will be able to travel from Sofia to Skopje by train in no more than an hour by 2025, Bulgaria’s Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Rosen Zhelyazkov said at the Sitting of the Bulgaria-North Macedonia Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation in Skopje. Bulgaria and North Macedonia are planning to invest EUR 400 million each on the construction and modernization of the Sofia-Skopje railway line. It became clear at the meeting that the state railways of North Macedonia will also start paying off their debts worth more than EUR 7 million to the Bulgarian State Railways. The Bulgaria-North Macedonia Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation also discussed ways to achieve double digit growth in bilateral trade and measures aimed at assisting entrepreneurs in the two countries. It also discussed the possibility to open Skopje-Sofia and Ohrid-Varna direct flights. Construction of a gas pipeline between Petrich and Strumica and reduction of tariffs between mobile operators were also in the focus of today’s discussions.
