Legendary Bulgarian basketball player Atanas Golomeev will become member of the FIBA Hall of Fame, the international federation has announced. His election coincides with the anniversary of organized basketball in Bulgaria. The ceremony will take place on August 30 in Beijing at the World Men's Championship. FIBA wrote that Golomev's outstanding achievements contribute greatly to the growth of the game in Bulgaria and around the world. "Bulgaria has not been noticeable on the basketball map of Europe for 20 years what is happening to me now is a great award for a whole generation," said Golomeev, 71, who regretted that sport today is not subject to state support. “The total budget of Bulgarian sport is about 45 million euros and you know what the salaries of world-class footballers or NBA basketball players are. Our whole sport relies on one annual salary,” Golomeev told reporters.
