Bozhidar Andreev grabs first gold medal for Bulgaria in weightlifting since 2014

At the European Weightlifting Championships in Batumi, Bulgarian Bozhidar Andreev became the first European weightlifting champion in the newly established category of 73 kg. The 22-year-old weightlifter won the gold medal with a European record for men up to 23 years of age of 153 kg in the snatch, and a European record for men in the clean and jerk of 192 kg. The last time Bulgaria won the European title in weightlifting was in 2014 in Tel Aviv when Georgi Markov triumphed in the category of 85 kg.
