The Bulgarian project “Recovery of the Lesser Kestrel” (Falco Naumanni) is among the finalists for the awards of the LIFE Programme of the European Commission. The project is in progress since 2012 and is put through by the Green Balkans Association in partnership with the German EuroNatur and the Spanish nature-protection organization DEMA. It successfully restores the population of this small predator bird, which was close to extinction. The Lesser Kestrel is as big as a dove. It went extinct in Bulgaria in the late 1980s.
