The mythological, sensual and spiritual world of Doncho Donchev

Mythology and eroticism intertwine in the works from the new exhibition of Doncho Donchev on display at Valer gallery in Sofia. The artistic quests of the artist reveal a world filled with contrasts.

Doncho Donchev was born in Gabrovo in 1974. He started studying fine arts at the secondary school of arts in Tryavna – a hub of the Revival-time artistic school which goes back to the beginning of the 17th century, perhaps the root of his own interest in things ancient. Doncho Donchev has his pet subjects – power, nobleness, harlequins, clowns and mythology, Bacchanalia, bulls, figures of women. Since 2000 he has been working in his studio and Sofia and has been traveling in Europe to present his projects. Works of his are on display in Zurich, Bern, Lichtenstein, Leipzig, Vienna, Brussels, Istanbul, Izmir etc.
