Sofia is changing and is becoming more and more attractive to tourists, said Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova addressing the National Board of Tourism.

Over the 2008-2018 period the number of overnight stays in Sofia has gone up by 36 percent and the number of foreign tourists – by 82 percent. This is a steady tendency, the growth rate has been stable since 2009, the Mayor of Sofia said. Last year alone there is an increase of 4 percent. The highest number of visits is from Germany, UK, Greece, Italy, Israel and France. The more than 60 festivals taking place in the capital city every year also contributes to this increase in the number of tourists, Yordanka Fandakova added.
