Bulgaria produces and supplies 1% of honey sold in EU

In 2018, Bulgaria exported more than 100 tons of honey to EU countries and 4 tons of honey for non-EU countries, Eurostat reported on the occasion of May 20, which is World Bee Day. Bulgaria has also imported 12 tons of honey from non-EU countries and 3.5 tons of honey from countries in the EU community. According to the United Bulgarian Beekeepers Association, this country is an important exporter of high-quality honey to Germany, Austria, Italy, France, the United States, Norway, and has recently started exporting honey to countries from the Middle East. Bulgaria's market share in the EU is about 1%, but it is characterized by high quality, manufacturers say. According to Eurostat, China is the largest importer of honey in the EU with nearly 80,000 tons and a market share of 40%.
