Deputy Prime Minister for Economic and Demographic Policy Mariyana Nikolova announced that the Ukrainian side has reaffirmed its policy regarding the Bulgarian community in the country.
Nikolova, who attended the inauguration ceremony of Volodymyr Zelensky as President, stressed that Bulgaria was the second country to have been invited to a one-to-one meeting with the new President of Ukraine. At this meeting it was reaffirmed that the country will continue to pursue the policy of the previous Ukrainian head of state Petro Poroshenko with regard to the Bulgarian community – the preservation of the integrity of Bolhrad region with a predominantly Bulgarian population and the study of the Bulgarian language by the Bulgarians there. The commitment, assumed by Boyko Borissov and Petro Poroshenko, to create a Ukrainian school with the advanced study of the Bulgarian language was also reaffirmed.
