Hundreds of believers from across the country gathered to the HolyVirgin Temple in Assenovgrad for the big religious feast of Meso-Pentecost. Every year, 25 days after Easter, the icon of the Holy Mother is taken out in a procession and carried to Bachkovo Monastery for worship, after which it is returned to the temple late in the evening.  Photo: BTA


On the eve of the Day of Bulgarian Enlightenment and Culture and of the Slavonic Alphabet, the Black Sea city of Burgas acquired two new art benches dedicated to two big poets born in that city – Petya Dubarova and Hristo Fotev.  Verse by these poets are written on the benches for passers-by to read and enjoy.  Photo: BTA


An antique brick tomb was unearthed in the northern part of St. Alexander Nevski Square in Sofia, during archeological excavations. The find is part of the Eastern necropolis of ancient Serdica, other parts of which have been unearthed and made accessible for display in other areas of downtown Sofia.
