The state will set aside 500,000 euro to resume the purchase of privately-owned forests, said for the Bulgarian National Radio Georgi Kostov, forester and advisor to Minister of Agriculture Desislava Taneva.

There are almost 2 million small plots of private forests which are being administered inefficiently, and many of the forest owners do not even know where their property is located. The idea is for the state to help these owners, on the one hand by purchasing their plots, and on the other to ensure their sustainable and good management. The project was launched during Dеislava Taneva’s previous term as Agriculture Minister, but was halted by Rumen Porozhanov who succeeded her to the post. Taneva returned to the зost of Minister of Agriculture after Porozhanov resigned
