Roberto Viola: Future supercomputer in Bulgaria will be as powerful as the NASA computer

The supercomputer that will be built in Bulgaria will be as powerful as the NASA computer, the Director General of DG Connect (Directorate General of Communication, Networks, Content and Technology) at the European Commission Roberto Viola said after the meeting with Bulgaria’s Premier Boyko Borissov and the Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society Mariya Gabriel. Bulgaria will be one of the eight European countries with a supercomputer, which will help this country become a leader in this sphere, Commissioner Mariya Gabriel said. The eight supercomputing centers will work in support of the European researchers and will develop new applications-from invention of new medicine molecules to the fight against climate changes. Bulgaria will pay EUR 12 million for the supercomputing center which will be built until 2020.
