Bulgaria has the highest mortality rate of all EU countries

With 1,602 deaths per 100,000, Bulgaria has the highest mortality rate in the EU for 2016, indicate data from a Eurostat report, published today, on causes and occurrence of deaths in the EU.

Second come Latvia and Romania (1,476), Lithuania (1,455) and Hungary (1,425 deaths per 100,000). The main cause of death are diseases of the circulatory system. The average death rate for the EU in 2016 is 1,002 per 100,000.
