Albena is a popular Bulgarian name and a popular female character by great Bulgarian writer Yordan Yovkov. His play of the same name, telling the story of the love affair of beautiful Albena, is among the most successful Bulgarian theater plays. The story of the play takes place in the region of Dobrudja. The sea resort of Albena is also situated in Dobrudja. Yovkov's literary work that also gave the name of the resort is 90 years old (1929). On August 24, the sea resort marks the 50th anniversary of its official opening (1969). The Albena Complex is the first Bulgarian resort that was built as a complete project, with hotels, restaurants and shops included in original architectural compositions. Among its advantages is the close proximity to pristine nature, as well as the wide beach. The program for the 50th anniversary of the resort includes opening of a new conference room and the "Mamma Mia!" musical presented by the Sofia Opera and Ballet.
