The first new gold mine in 40 years inaugurated in Bulgaria

The first new gold mine in the country in 40 years was inaugurated near Krumovghrad in Southern Bulgaria, with an official ceremonmy attended by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov. 

The investment is by the private company Dundee Precious Metals, Krumovgrad. The mine at Ada Tepe has effectively been operational since July and several weeks later the first amounts of gold concentrate were produced. The technique applied is open-pit mining, with 800,000 tons of ore expected to be processed annually. The mine has provided jobs to more than 250 local residents.
