Bulgarian weekend school in Chicago starts school year in new building

Aleko Konstantinov weekend school in Chicago starts the new school year in a new building. This will be the biggest Bulgarian weekend school in the USA. The building was bought and renovated thanks to the joint efforts and the voluntary labor of the Bulgarian emigrants in Chicago. In the beginning, 150 pupils will study in this school, but the school building will be also used as cultural center of the Bulgarian community in Chicago. There are 38 weekend schools in the USA. According to unofficial estimates of the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, nearly 300,000 Bulgarians live and work in the USA and the biggest Bulgarian community lives in Chicago.
