Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen is on a visit to Bulgaria. Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov discussed with the guest the possibilities for activating bilateral economic ties and promoting contacts between the businesses of the two countries, as well as developing bilateral investment activities. The Bulgarian side stated its readiness for joint actions in the fields of regional development and public works, environmental protection, training of energy specialists.
Bulgaria’s Deputy Premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva discussed with the Premier of the Kingdom of Cambodia Samdech Techo Hun Sen the development of the trade relations between Bulgaria and Cambodia. The Bulgarian business shows significant interest to develop trade ties with Cambodia, Minister Zaharieva underlined. In 2018 trade between the two countries increased with 12.7% as compared to 2017 and amounted to USD 6.2 million. Bulgaria’s export to Cambodia increased with 161.5% to USD 3.4 million. In 2017 it amounted to USD 1.3 million. Despite the positive trends, the trade between Bulgaria and Cambodia does not match the possibilities of bilateral cooperation, Deputy Premier Zaharieva and Premier Samdech Techo Hun Sen agreed.
Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev and the Prime Minister of Cambodia Samdech Techo Hun Sen discussed in Sofia the prospects for increasing bilateral trade, economic and investment cooperation between the two countries. Bulgaria’s Vice President Iliana Yotova also attended the meeting between Bulgaria’s head of state Radev and Cambodia’s Premier Samdech Techo Hun Sen. There is high potential for cooperation in the agriculture, food industry, pharmaceutical industry, information technologies and construction fields, the participants at the meeting agreed. An important step in this direction is the signature of a bilateral agreement on economic, scientific and technical cooperation within the frameworks of the visit of Cambodia’s Premier Samdech Techo Hun Sen.
