87% of victims of trafficking in Bulgaria are women

On the occasion of the European Day for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, the National Anti-Trafficking Commission said today that every year victims of trafficking are between 450 and 500 people, as nearly 87% of them are women. During the first 9 months of 2019, 387 Bulgarians, 258 of whom were women, became victims of criminal trafficking. According to estimates by Europol and the International Labor Organization, the profits of traffickers exceed 29 billion euros a year, with the largest profit being generated through sexual exploitation - about 23 billion euros.
