Sredets culture house is hosting an exhibition dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the holding of the first international children’s assembly “Banner of Peace”. The exhibition of photographs and children’s drawings, kept in the fund of the international assembly, is on until 26 November.

The first such event was held in 1979, declared by the UN international year of the child. The organization of the assembly was taken up by public and cultural figures from all over the world under the direction of Lyudmila Zhivkova, daughter of communist leader Todor Zhivkov and chairperson of the committee for culture. A world children’s parliament was held within the frameworks of the children’s assembly. One of the events during the first children’s festival was the inauguration of an international children’s park “The Bells” where the children from different countries placed one bell each as a symbol of the culture and traditions of the countries they come from.

In 1990 the initiative was discontinued, but was revived in 1999 on a more modest scale, by Evgenia Zhivkova, daughter of Lyudmila Zhivkova and granddaughter of Todor Zhivkov.
